Just A Few Aspects Of Good Storage Units

You want to store your belongings in a very safe location, and there is usually no safer place than a storage unit facility. These facilities are designed and engineered to store all sorts of different belongings. There are different types of storage facilities, from very secure to outside self-storage units. Whether you are choosing to store your belongings in an inside storage facility, or an outside storage facility, there are a few different aspects that you need to check for. Here are a few ideas of what to check for in a potential storage unit facility:

Pest Control

Insects and rodents can get into almost any location, and do a lot of damage to your belongings. This is why it is so important to check for pests in your potential storage unit. When you are looking at a potential storage unit inspect the floor for any signs of insects or rodents. You will see dead bugs, or fecal pellets to let you know if there have been any pests in the unit. Be sure to check the edges of the storage unit, and also in the corners. If you do not find any signs of pests, you are on the right track. The next step is to talk to the storage facility manager. Ask the manager if the units are sprayed for pest protection.

Weather

You want to inspect your unit for weather protection. Often storage units are raised off the ground a few inches to protect against flooding. Inspect the storage unit for any type of water damage. Look at the ceiling to see if there are any signs of rust or leaking. You will also want to look at the floor to see if there was any stagnant water sitting on the floor of the unit. Also be sure that the floor of the unit is a few inches from the actual ground. Lastly, when you are storing your items in a storage unit, be sure to put a few silicone sticks in the unit to absorb any condensation.

Security

You will have a very good understanding of the security measures when you start looking into a secure storage unit. Be sure that the facility is monitored by video surveillance and that the locks on the different storage units are extremely high-quality locks. If you need to provide your own lock, this is not an area to cut corners. Make sure that you pick the highest quality lock to protect your belongings.
